St. Joseph, Minnesota has long been one of my favorite daycation spots. It’s a small town with a big personality, and every time I visit it seems like something new has popped up. From cozy coffee shops and handmade sweets to craft beverages and locally owned boutiques, St. Joe packs a lot into a walkable downtown.

Whether you’re planning a casual outing with friends, a low-key date day, or just want an easy escape from routine, this charming town has plenty to explore. Think coffee in a historic building, boutique browsing, cider tastings, and dinner that feels like a mini vacation.

Here’s a simple itinerary to help you plan your own brewery-to-cidery daycation.

Your Perfect St. Joe Daycation Itinerary

☀️ Morning: Coffee + Cozy Exploring

Start your morning at The Local Blend.

Housed in a historic downtown building, this longtime community coffeehouse has the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger. They focus on homemade and organic offerings and have an impressive drink menu that ranges from classic coffee drinks to blended specialties and even kombucha on tap.

Their bakery case is filled with house-made muffins, scones, and cookies, but the menu goes beyond pastries. You’ll also find sandwiches, salads, small plates, and even pizza if you’re feeling extra hungry.

One thing locals love about this spot is how thoughtfully they label menu items for dietary needs like gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options.

Bonus tip:
Keep an eye out for a Little Free Library along the same street. It’s a fun place to drop off a book you’ve finished or see if something new catches your eye.

🛍 Walkable Boutique Shopping

Once you’re caffeinated, take a stroll through downtown and pop into a few local shops within walking distance.

Hudson & Company – A Minnesota boutique featuring trendy clothing, gifts, and home décor.

WR Home & Clothing Co. – A woman-owned shop curating modern organic home décor, cozy apparel, thoughtful gifts, and quality baby items.

White Peony Boutique – A trendy women’s boutique carrying clothing and accessories in sizes small through 3XL.

It’s an easy way to support small businesses while finding something unique to take home.

🥪 Midday: Lunch Hall + Something Sweet

For lunch, head over to The House Food & Tap.

This lively food hall brings several kitchens together in one shared space, so everyone in your group can order exactly what they’re craving.

Current options include:

98 Hawaiian Grill – Hawaiian comfort foods and island-inspired flavors
Brick Oven Pizza – Classic pizzas baked in a brick oven
Joetown Burgers – Smashed burgers and fries done right

One of the coolest features here is the self-pour tap wall, where you can sample different beers and beverages by the ounce to find your favorite.

If you’re still in the mood for caffeine, the in-house café also serves coffee, tea, and specialty drinks.

🍦 Dessert Stop

Because no daycation is complete without something sweet.

Two fun options nearby:

Jupiter Moon Ice Cream – Try an ice cream flight so you can sample several flavors.

Flour & Flower Bakery – Known for creative baked goods (I have my eye on the Compost Cookie).

🌇 Afternoon: Sip, Relax & Explore

Now that you’ve fueled up, spend the afternoon exploring St. Joe’s craft beverage scene. Depending on the vibe you’re going for, you can visit one or all of these spots.

🍎 Milk & Honey Ciders

This cidery focuses on traditional cider-making using heirloom apple varieties. Their ciders range from crisp and refreshing to complex and dry.

They also host community events throughout the year like outdoor yoga, craft nights such as Stitch & Sip, and a summer concert series.

🍺 Bad Habit Brewing Company

A popular gathering spot in town, Bad Habit Brewing is known for its rotating lineup of craft beers including ales, stouts, and sours.

It’s also a welcoming place for families and groups, offering house-made sodas and plenty of events. Depending on when you visit, you might catch trivia night, music bingo, a DIY plant bar event, Pilates sessions, or even Lego building nights.

🥃 Obbink Distilling

For something truly unique, stop by this craft distillery founded by a former NASA mechanical satellite engineer.

The distillery uses proprietary rapid-aging technology to mature whiskey much faster than traditional methods, resulting in small-batch spirits with a distinctive character.

Their tasting room, fittingly called The Testing Facility, hosts creative events like:

• Blend-your-own whiskey experiences
• Cocktail classes
• Trivia and bingo nights
• Yoga & Spirits sessions
• Occasional live DJs and workshops

🌙 Evening: Dinner to End the Day

Wrap up your daycation with a great dinner.

Two excellent options:

🍤 Krewe Restaurant

A casual restaurant inspired by New Orleans flavors, serving Southern-style dishes in a lively atmosphere with live music and an open kitchen.

🍝 Bello Cucina

A beloved Italian restaurant that has won Best Italian Restaurant in Central Minnesota multiple years in a row.

🎉 Seasonal Events Worth Planning Around

If you’re planning a visit, it can be fun to line it up with one of St. Joe’s biggest community celebrations.

🇺🇸 Joetown Rocks

A huge two-day Fourth of July celebration featuring live rock music, a parade, fireworks, food, and community activities.

🎨 Millstream Arts Festival

Held on the last Sunday in August, this free outdoor art festival showcases regional artists alongside live music, performances, and family activities.

Final Thoughts

St. Joseph may be a small town, but it delivers a surprisingly full day of experiences. From coffee and boutique shopping to cider tastings and craft cocktails, it’s the kind of place where you can slow down, try something new, and still make it home by evening.

If you’re looking for an easy Minnesota daycation with big flavor, St. Joe should definitely be on your list.
